XIN Session 09

"woohoo, another episode!"

submission: XIN Session 09
date: June 20, 2004

Yes, yes, yes! another episode of my favorite anime series. I really started liking this after i watched all your episodes a couple of months ago. The drawings and animation are not the best, but the story totally makes up for that. But there is on big BUT. Where the hell is the voiceacting man? U promised it would be here and it isnt! :'( Neway this is still a great piece. More cinematic and professional than the other episodes and a good conclussion. Take care!

Author's Response:

Sorry for the delay on voice acting.
We currently finished voices for sessions 1 to 3, and the rest should be coming along in due time.
We'd like to continue the series as originally paced however, and voices will be added in as we go. Thanks alot for the review, and I think we've improved the graphics quite a bit in the new chapter, and we hope you enjoy it too.

Pretty cool. The graphics were kinda terrible but the music brought something to the animation. The explosion at the end was a nice thing. Meh, not really funny, but not really terrible either. Hurray!

Inverse Shoot'em up

"aw man"

Hehe, nice and original. How do u come up with stuff i like this? It seems like a normal everyday spaceshooter at first, but the concept is pretty 'weeblish'. I was almost laughing playing this weirdass game. Only 2 bad there are only 2 levels. And i made a mistake to play the game at easy first, because after i completed it with ease, i didnt really wanted to do it again on hard. On the technical aspect the game is very good, nice graphics, no bugs and smooth animation. But wouldnt it be nice to have a levelboss or something, u can control? Neway, it's good to see that you have your heart at the right place with the charity at the end. Shows that u do care and there is more to u than very funny weirdass flashes. Keep up the good work and take care!

"hmm"

date: June 15, 2004

I'm sorry, but i didnt really like this one much. The graphics were pretty good, especially the backgrounds were awesome. But i don't think you made those, did you? What dissapointed me about this was that i found the story a little bit simple/cliche and a tad boring. The movie consisted of 3 scenes and in every scene there was a short conversation that went into a fight... Also the animation could have been smoother (more frames per movement) and the entire thing was too short. Well 2 bad, but there is always room for improvement.

Author's Response:

No i did not make the backgrounds obviously, but I did edit it and put it together. Sprite movies wasn't mean to have so many frames, because the smoothness of the animation depends on teh sprites. And I'll agree, there is room for improvement.

KILLER KAZUKI

"lol!"

submission: KILLER KAZUKI

Hahaha, shit that was great. At first i really didnt like what u made. The first part came across as some bad action movie with lousy voice acting and nasty backgrounds. I was about to close it and rate it 2, but then i noticed u added some humour to the animation. I saw Wade Fulp tied and captured and i was like wtf. I was really rolling over the floor when the frog monster came in. Haha, i understand now that u werent trying to create something too serious and that what u made was a perfect balance between action/humor. The gory and overdone violence, the simple plot. Lol, brilliant. Hell, even the animation became awesome at the point where he fought the boss. It almost seemd like it was drawn by a different guy. I can see that uv put alot of time into this and it really paid off. Great work man!

Fairy Sorrow

"close to perfection"

Extremely well done. The graphics and animation are the creme de la creme. This is together with Aura, the only flash iv seen that knows how to implement 3d techniques without making the flash too cheap-looking. No doubt this will go in the top 10. It will just take a little while cause u dont have a batting average yet. I felt like the entire animation had some beautiful deeper meaning. It shows the contrasts between the beautiful perfect fantasy life in our head and the hard cold technoligical society we live in. I have no negative things to say about this and that is very rare, since im pretty critical about flash movies.

Author's Response:

"creme de la creme" Nice ;-) May I use this fraise, I like it!

Not bad man. Iv seen some of your work now and i must say that you are getting better and better with flash. This piece borrows alot from Kill Bill, but still has it's own identity. Ur good with camera angles, cinematic situations and details. I dont think you are the best drawer, maybe u should buy a drawing tablet to improve on this? A little bit more annoying was the animation at some points though. The scrolling background, spinning rims, road lines and walking animation really need some more work. I know u are a fan of Luis and i see that u use some things he uses too. Like the unblurring effects and the already mentioned scrolling backgrounds. All in all i think ur an artist with good potential and im looking forward in seeing more stuff from you. Oh and tell Zidane i said hi, when u see him in France for me, ok?

Author's Response:

Thanks a lot man, I'm glad you liked it, and thanks for telling about me getting better at flash!
I didn't know I had the skills of a "cinema" guy, for the "camera angles and cinematic situations". It's nice to hear that! Yeah, I'm working on saving up to buy a graphic tablet, but hey, money is a tricky thing ! :)
Yeah! Of course I'm a fan of Luis's work, he's one of the best. And yeah, I try to be inspired by my fav. artist's works. And yeah, you did notice the "blurring" effect ;-)
Thanks a lot for all the encouraging things you say, it gives me "stenght" and determination to keep making flash, but I'm really lazy lol.
About Zidane ... that was total pwnage tonight. That guy is a god. And yeah, I'll tell him you said hi... If I ever see him one day :-/
Thanks for the motivating review!

One of the few flashes on newgrounds with an actual story. It's good to see a flash without loads of action with just interesting dialogue. Im glad that u found such awesome voice actors, because they were crucial for this. Ur art is also impressive. Not too impressive, but better than average. The characters all looked pretty convincing. The thing that dissapointed me though were, like in most flashes, the backgrounds. How come artists always ignore this and spend so much time fine tuning the characters... Good backgrounds add so much more to the animation. (Can u for example imagine lord of the rings, without the beautiful landscape?) I also missed subtitles. I couldnt really hear all the dialogue while my volume was really high. Neway, very bold and ambitious flash though and i wish u much luck with the other parts.

This is very obviously insprired by 'Banana Phone'. (Don't even try to deny it). Only, this animation didnt have the catchy soundtrack OR the witty dialogue OR the original idea. So whats left...? Nice graphics, smooth but not too complex animation and a weird character. Better luck next time.

Author's Response:

WTF I fuckin did not rip that off banana phone!! I have not even seen the whole episode of banana phone WTF.... Don't judge my movie if you don't know whats going in my head.. ok thx for the reveiw of the animation

Awesome. I love how u picked a mature and classic soundtrack for this piece. It went excellent with the animation. It also shows your creativity and musical maturity. Even though ur only 14 yet. The artwork was very well done. Although i missed backgrounds and maybe some simple colour tones the whole thing still came across stylish. U obviously wanted to make a statement with this flash. Although i completely understand what ur point is and i feel the same way at times too, u could have implented the message less obvious and maybe without words. This is in my eyes the biggest flaw of the flash. Try for example looking at the animation 'Smile' in the top 50. It has the same depressing and critical view on life, but yet only those who think and doubt things in life can really see the true meaning. Still, i dont blame you too much for this, cause you are still so young. As u age, u will develop yourself and learn more about life and so will ur artistic views. Maybe im being a little bit too phylosophical but i think that u understand what i mean. Take care.
